I didn’t sleep just so I can join the tour today. I know that if I close my eyes even for one bit, the 2nd time I open it will be noon. Haha. So I found myself in 7-11 Blumentritt at 8AM, armed with a dozen resumés and other important documents.
Off to our first destination
1. Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center
San Lazaro Compound, Rizal Avenue, Sta. Cruz, Manila
Telephone: (632) 711-9491
http://www2.doh.gov.ph/jrrmmc/jrhome.htm
***from 7-11 Blumentritt, we rode a jeep going to Sta. Cruz area
We didn’t know what to do and where to go hehe. We asked the elevator guy and he told us to go to the 11th floor, and we’ll find what we were looking for. But we didn’t. So we left haha.
2. San Lazaro Hospital
Quiricada St., Sta. Cruz, Manila
Telephone: (632) 732-7376 to 78

***just around the corner from JRMMC. I didn’t dare to take my camera out in these 2 locations haha.
We found the HR Department after asking around. The lady said that they were not hiring at the moment, and asked us to call for updates. She gave us an application form and the list of requirements.
3. Metropolitan Medical Center
1357 G. Masangkay St., Sta. Cruz, Manila
Trunkline no. 2541111 loc. 7136/7137/7138/7139

***we rode a tricycle from SLH
It was far from what I expected. It was really cool and nice inside. And I slightly felt comfortable, because I somehow felt like I was at an annex of Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center where I was a student nurse for 3 years. We found the HR on the top floor, gave the requirements, and were told to wait their call. I really hope they do call.
4. Medical Center Manila
1122 Gen. Luna St., Ermita, Manila
Telephone: (632) 523-8131

*** from Metropolitan, we rode a tricycle back to LRT, and then to U.N. Avenue Station
It was also nice inside, and we were able to arrange some of our papers in their big, wicker chairs at the lobby. The HR department is at the 2nd to the last floor (I can’t remember haha), and we were short of some of the requirements (application letter, xerox of certificates) so we decided to come back on our next hospital tour.
5. Manila Doctors Hospital
667 U.N. Ave., Ermita, Manila
Telephone: (632) 524-3011

*** from MCM, cross the LRT and walk for a few meters straight ahead. Click the link above to get a spot map.
The personnel we asked for directions asked which school we came from. And so did the chief nurse. And that’s it. Haha. They’re presently prioritizing entry of their own graduates (Manila Doctors College), and we understood that because CGHMC is doing the same thing for us. But still they gave us the list of requirements, for reasons we are still unaware of haha.
6. Capitol Medical Center
Quezon Avenue corner Scout Magbanua Street, Quezon City
Telephone: (632) 372-3825 to 44
http://www.capitolmedical.org/

*** from Madocs, we rode an FX to SM West.
Finding the HR department here is a bit tricky. From where the FX dropped you off, you have to go around the entire hospital, because the entrance to the HR is on another building and entrance at the back of the main building. When we finally found it, in bold letters at the bulletin board was written “Applicants for staff nurse position must be an IV Therapist“. I was the only one among my friends who completed an IV training, so only my resumé was accepted. But the secretary told me that there was already a long, long line of applicants. I left my papers anyway.
7. Veterans Memorial Medical Center
North Avenue, Quezon City
Telephone: (632) 927-7393

*** from Capitol, we rode a jeep to Project 6. We regretted not waiting for a taxi.
The walk from where the jeep dropped us off, up to the main building, was very, VERY far. Imagine walking around a whole golf course, with the sun glaring at us, and to discover once at the gate that there’s another long walk to be able to reach the main entrance. There was a parade of christmas lanterns and the trip didn’t look promising for us, as a guy in the megaphone announced that all the respective departments fall uniformly in line. There’s a very big chance that the HR department is included. Sigh. Still, we didn’t want to give up and waste our efforts coming to this place, so we went inside. And here’s what we found.

Cmon mamon. Ang saya-saya. Not even one among the people we asked for directions gave us a hint. (As I was searching Google for more information, I found a forum saying that VMMC was sold by the government, scheduled to be demolished in 2010, and will be made into a Central Business District. But I cannot verify its veracity.)
We went to SM City North Edsa to rest, eat and be merry (hahaha), this time by taxi which we all agreed upon in unison.
So that ends our Hospital Tour 2008. Check back on Januray 2009 for the 2nd leg of our tour hahaha.
***For first timers, here’s what you might need (not all hospitals require everything in the list, but bring what you can):
