Hospital Tour (Part I)

I didn’t sleep just so I can join the tour today. I know that if I close my eyes even for one bit, the 2nd time I open it will be noon. Haha. So I found myself in 7-11 Blumentritt at 8AM, armed with a dozen resumés and other important documents.

Off to our first destination

1. Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center
San Lazaro Compound, Rizal Avenue, Sta. Cruz, Manila
Telephone: (632) 711-9491
http://www2.doh.gov.ph/jrrmmc/jrhome.htm

***from 7-11 Blumentritt, we rode a jeep going to Sta. Cruz area

We didn’t know what to do and where to go hehe. We asked the elevator guy and he told us to go to the 11th floor, and we’ll find what we were looking for. But we didn’t. So we left haha. :D

2. San Lazaro Hospital
Quiricada St., Sta. Cruz, Manila
Telephone: (632) 732-7376 to 78
http://www2.doh.gov.ph/slh/index.htm

***just around the corner from JRMMC. I didn’t dare to take my camera out in these 2 locations haha.

We found the HR Department after asking around. The lady said that they were not hiring at the moment, and asked us to call for updates. She gave us an application form and the list of requirements.

3. Metropolitan Medical Center
1357 G. Masangkay St., Sta. Cruz, Manila
Trunkline no. 2541111 loc. 7136/7137/7138/7139
http://www.rxpinoy.com/metropolitanmedicalcenter/index.php

MMC

***we rode a tricycle from SLH

It was far from what I expected. It was really cool and nice inside. And I slightly felt comfortable, because I somehow felt like I was at an annex of Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center where I was a student nurse for 3 years. We found the HR on the top floor, gave the requirements, and were told to wait their call. I really hope they do call.

4. Medical Center Manila
1122 Gen. Luna St., Ermita, Manila
Telephone: (632) 523-8131
http://www.medicalcentermanila.com.ph/

MCM

*** from Metropolitan, we rode a tricycle back to LRT, and then to U.N. Avenue Station

It was also nice inside, and we were able to arrange some of our papers in their big, wicker chairs at the lobby. The HR department is at the 2nd to the last floor (I can’t remember haha), and we were short of some of the requirements (application letter, xerox of certificates) so we decided to come back on our next hospital tour.

5. Manila Doctors Hospital
667 U.N. Ave., Ermita, Manila
Telephone: (632) 524-3011
http://www.maniladoctors.com.ph/

*** from MCM, cross the LRT and walk for a few meters straight ahead. Click the link above to get a spot map.

The personnel we asked for directions asked which school we came from. And so did the chief nurse. And that’s it. Haha. They’re presently prioritizing entry of their own graduates (Manila Doctors College), and we understood that because CGHMC is doing the same thing for us. But still they gave us the list of requirements, for reasons we are still unaware of haha.

6. Capitol Medical Center
Quezon Avenue corner Scout Magbanua Street, Quezon City
Telephone: (632) 372-3825 to 44
http://www.capitolmedical.org/

Capitol

*** from Madocs, we rode an FX to SM West.

Finding the HR department here is a bit tricky. From where the FX dropped you off, you have to go around the entire hospital, because the entrance to the HR is on another building and entrance at the back of the main building. When we finally found it, in bold letters at the bulletin board was written “Applicants for staff nurse position must be an IV Therapist“. I was the only one among my friends who completed an IV training, so only my resumé was accepted. But the secretary told me that there was already a long, long line of applicants. I left my papers anyway.

7. Veterans Memorial Medical Center
North Avenue, Quezon City
Telephone: (632) 927-7393
http://server.pvao.mil.ph/vmmc.html

VMMC

*** from Capitol, we rode a jeep to Project 6. We regretted not waiting for a taxi.

The walk from where the jeep dropped us off, up to the main building, was very, VERY far. Imagine walking around a whole golf course, with the sun glaring at us, and to discover once at the gate that there’s another long walk to be able to reach the main entrance. There was a parade of christmas lanterns and the trip didn’t look promising for us, as a guy in the megaphone announced that all the respective departments fall uniformly in line. There’s a very big chance that the HR department is included. Sigh. Still, we didn’t want to give up and waste our efforts coming to this place, so we went inside. And here’s what we found.

picture-018

Cmon mamon. Ang saya-saya. Not even one among the people we asked for directions gave us a hint. (As I was searching Google for more information, I found a forum saying that VMMC was sold by the government, scheduled to be demolished in 2010, and will be made into a Central Business District. But I cannot verify its veracity.)

We went to SM City North Edsa to rest, eat and be merry (hahaha), this time by taxi which we all agreed upon in unison.

So that ends our Hospital Tour 2008. Check back on Januray 2009 for the 2nd leg of our tour hahaha. :D

***For first timers, here’s what you might need (not all hospitals require everything in the list, but bring what you can):

Baby & I

Baby & II haven’t seen a Korean movie in a while, so I decided to try this.

Baby & I is a movie about a high school senior who always gets in trouble at school, and is about to get expelled. One day, he finds a baby in his cart at the supermarket, with a note saying that he’s the father of the baby. His parents had just left the house, he’s broke and nowhere near being a daddy. So that’s where the story revolves.  I’m bad at making reviews I know hahaha.

I can say I enjoyed watching it. It was a bit melodramatic, but I was laughing my heart out at another Korean sitcom (Unstoppable Marriage) I was watching earlier, so it was a well balanced evening haha. :D

Goodnight, Goodmorning!

Last Sunday was my deadline for 10 articles, and.. I wasn’t able to pass anything. I had to ask for an extension from Ted, and fortunately he agreed to it. My reason for not having done anything is because my sister used the computer, told me Saturday she had something important to do which I didn’t really believe but gave in anyway, and she didn’t leave the computer (literally; she has set up a camp in front of the computer) until Today. And I told Ted that I’d submit the articles TODAY also.

2PM and I was about to start my cramming, when Mom told me she was going to DTI in Malolos, and asked if I wanted to come. I immediately said yes hahaha. When stressed and rushing something, I tend to procrastinate even more hahaha. I also had something to do in Malolos, I called Bulacan Medical Center last week and they told me my IV license was ready for pick-up. So they dropped me first at BMC and then they went to DTI.

There was a short, non-moving line at the Nursing Service Office. I was told that they had a meeting which just started right before I came in. Urrgh.

I brought a pen and paper, as I anticipated something like this would happen. I continued scribbling while waiting in line. After 10 minutes, I couldn’t continue anymore and decided to talk with the people in the line hehe.

There were 4 fellow registered nurses who were submitting their completed cases of IV insertion, administration of IV medications and blood transfusion. One guy had trouble with a computation and wasn’t sure how many copies he should make; and the other girl was asked to recompute the drop factor of her IV fluid. I said “what the heck, they shouldn’t be minding the doctors’ orders, we’re only following them.” They all agreed and in no time, I was at the front of the line hahaha :D

Hindi naman singit ginawa ko eh.. I told them I’ll just get my license, and no one really cared that I was in front already haha.

Thank God there was one nurse who entertained me while the nurses’ meeting was on-going, and she asked me to sign on the logbook and I got my card and 2 certificates, one from BMC and the other from ANSAP.

picture-010

Yehey. After one month, they finally released it. I liked it better than my PRC license hehe.

While I was there, I asked what the requirements were for those interested to do volunteer service at BMC. (I’ll do a separate post for that).

My parents were already done and waiting for me at the parking lot. On the way home, I saw a tarpaulin of a fiesta or celebration of some sort in Malolos City, and I saw a picture of Mark Herras, and then Marky Cielo. They were set to perform there on December 30. I’m sure many will be sad, and sometimes I am too. He is just my age, and without any one noticing, he slipped away from this world. Hay. May he rest in peace. :(

So. It’s 6PM and I’m still hooked on family feud haha. I turned off the TV after, and so my cram marathon has officially started.

UPDATE: I finished at 8AM. Goodnight, Goodmorning! :)

My First Paycheck

It’s not really a check. And no, not from being a nurse.
scan0002

At last, after 22 articles, my doubts of being involved in a scam have disappeared. In fact, when I came to Western Union, I conditioned myself that there’s a possibility I’m not getting anything, so I didn’t expect much. The lady at the counter asked where the money will be coming from. I said I had no idea, and with pleading eyes told her this was for a job I did online. After 2 minutes, she told me to write Brunei.

I was a bit shocked haha, I really had no idea. I had been corresponding with the editor numerous times, but didn’t ask for any information. So… my articles have reached an Asian neighbor hehehe…

I know it’s cheap, but for something I did only once a week, 4 days in all, at the comfort of my home, it’s not that bad. :)

I found this part-time job on http://ph.jobstreet.com, under freelance article writer
