First Day @ BMC

Mr. Chairman told us to gather at 6:30 AM at the Nursing Service Office where we can get our rotation schedules, and our ID laces. At 7:00 AM, we were instructed to wait at the JICA Building. Guess what. 3 hours later, we were still waiting. I’m glad to have made new friends who kept me company and laughing during the long wait. Ria’s portrayal of Anita Linda in Tayong Dalawa was priceless hahahaha. Anyway. Ma’am Amy finally came, and left, and we waited again, and then Mrs. Tiongson, BMC Chief Nurse came and gave a few words to us, and then we finally saw our schedules. I couldn’t be more happier with mine, 3-11 shift for 2 weeks woohoo! I hate waking up early so this was perfect.

We were assigned at the OB-OR/PACU department. We had lunch first (Yes it took that long) and returned at 1:00 PM. Ma’am Martin, the senior nurse oriented us to the area rules and protocol, and then we had our first patient. The only patient we had for that day haha. I volunteered to do the skin test. She was stable after 2 hours. And so that ended our first day. Hay. So tiring, even though we did almost nothing haha. My day off is tomorrow, and on Wednesday, I’ll be alone on the 3-11 shift. I’m both anxious and excited, and let’s see what’ll happen.

Driving Lessons 101

I was free this week, so I managed to squeeze this in my schedule. I went to the FJ Driving Institute office on Thursday to start.

Day 1.

Learning important road signs and parts of the car. I already knew most of the signs, and for the car parts, it was a total blur for me. Hahaha. I think about 10% of what my instructor (Jeff) told me stuck to my head. Since there was time left, he taught me how to start the car and move forward and reverse. I sucked at it and had the engine die many times. But I was happy with my grade for the day, 7 out of 10. Not that bad for someone who doesn’t have any background on driving hahaha.

Day 2.

More focus on controlling the clutch. I still had a hard time controlling it, which made the engine die many many times. Jeff taught me how to shift gears, and then he told me to sit on the passenger seat, and we went out of the driving school compound until we reached the main road. And then he pulled over to the side, and told me to exchange seats with him. And I just stared at him for a long time.

Jeriko: Anong ako mag-ddrive.
Jeff: Ikaw na mag-ddrive
Jeriko: Wehhh..
Jeff: Palit na tayo
Jeriko: Owkei…
Jeff: Game na ha ikaw na magddrive
Jeriko: Is this a joke or is this for real?
Jeff: Kaya mo na yan
Jeriko: Hindi ba tayo magdadasal? :D
Jeff: Let’s go!

So.. There was nothing else to do but pretend that I could drive. And surprisingly, I enjoyed it. Very much. It was like driving a bump car only this was the real thing and any sudden turn could kill the pasaway na pedestrians. I drove for less than 10km on the main road. And I was able to shift to 3rd gear (woohoo) on my first day on actually driving on the road. It was a super cool feeling, until it was time to review controlling the clutch. And again, I sucked at it haha. But improving, at least slightly. I still drove the car back to the driving school, and parked horribly.

My score for the day: 7 out of 10. I expected that I would get lower, so I said “yehey” when he wrote down the grade hahaha. :D

Day 3.

Parking and maneuvering (Mane-obra). I drove up to the golf course where we practiced making a u-turn, and a 2-point and 3-point maneuver. I did a 5-point at first try. And the engine always managed to die hahaha. I drove through an intersection, narrow pathways, and fortunately, killed no one. :) My grade: 7 out of 10. Pretty consistent haha.

Day 4.

Hanging. Was a struggle at first, but did ok after some tries. I enjoyed driving the main roads where there were less small children to honk at, and no humps where I needed to break and always forgot to switch to gear 1 and at times the engine dies hahaha. We reviewed parking and I did better. I think. And I didn’t expect my grade to go up, but it did. 8 out of 10. Woohoo! I must be doing things right.

I start on Bulacan Medical Center tomorrow, so my driving lessons will stop for now until I get a hold of my schedule. Hay. I already miss driving. :)

Pre-Orientation @ Bulacan Medical Center

We were asked to return on February 2, 7:00 AM, in complete white duty uniform. I’ve heard from some trainees from the previous batch that we will undergo a week long orientation, which starts today. So at 6:45 AM, I was at BMC, all fresh and white, standing with other nurses at the Nursing Service Office. I expected that there’ll be lots of nurses who’ll be training with me, but I didn’t expect that we’ll all be over a hundred! I saw Joseph, a former schoolmate, amidst the ocean of nurses at the NSO. And then at around 7:30 AM, there was a buzz that the pre-orientation will be held inside the JICA Building. I knew that but still went to the NSO because they were all there. But wait, I’ve been to that building before, when I had my IVT Training. And it cannot accomodate all of us. But the supervisors still instructed us to go inside, not minding whether we’re too cramped, very uncomfortable, and lacking enough oxygen. So what happened was they had us move all the tables forward, added chairs at the back, benches at the side, and instructed us to sit and wait for further instructions. But COME ON, really. Not only was the room made for 60 people accomodated more than a 100, but look at the time! It’s almost 8:30. Why ask us to come at 7, make us wait for one and half hours, and then announce that the resumes have not been organized yet when they should have been already. The condition inside the room was not at all pleasurable, especially to our group who sat on the long benches at the side.

The training officer called out our names one by one. She sorted out the resumes in front of us all. Those with incomplete requirements, she asked if they brought the required documents. Those with complete, she still asked if they had the requirements. Come on. By 10:30, she was done. And it was then that some discovered that their resumes and requirements were lost at the NSO.

Break time. We were asked to return at 1:00 AM. The training officers resumed the torture at 1:30. They announced that those who have not yet acquired their IVT Card will not be accepted in this batch. 106 of us left. Woohoo.

We were divided into 2 groups, with 53 nurse trainees each. The first group, including myself, will return the next day at 9:00 AM, for the hospital tour. The 2nd half, at 10:00 AM.

And that was the end of the first day. I went home with a really bad headache. I changed clothes, checked my mails, turned on the TV, saw Gerald Anderson and Jake Cuenca win 2 million in Deal or No Deal, and another family at Family Feud win 2 million++ ….. and it was morning again.

Hindi ko man lang napanood ang pilot episode ng Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang hahaha.
